Jay-Z’s RocNation Sports Management today announced the signing of Skylar Diggins, a rookie guard for the Tulsa Shock and marketing gold mine in waiting.

Diggins’ beauty plus her skills are going to make her a transformative athletic marketing figure, and the league a more pop culture-friendly product when you throw in other sexy hoopsters Maya Moore and Elena Delle-Donne.

Jay-Z’s brand recognition brings an relatively novice audience to the sport, young people and hip-hop fans who want to see how Jay’s client fares in the pros. It’s the Roc, you bastards.

R&B, Hip Hop artists effected by Billboard’s new ‘cost effective’ chart policy?

Written by , Posted in Business, Headlines

No more nearly free albums. Billboard officially announced a new policy Wednesday, stating albums priced at less than $3.49 will not be counted on its coveted Billboard 200! Will this have an effect on R&B and Hip Hop artists who have occassionally benefited from lowering the sticker price to boost first week sales ?

It is no secret, Lady Gaga caused quite a controversy earlier this year when her anticipated album “Born This Way” was offered for $0.99, causing sales of the effort to exceed the 1 million mark. While it easily made the no.1 spot on the Billboard 200, the album is just one of several lower priced efforts to give an artist the boost they need to reach the summit.

The “Occupy All Streets” line disappeared from the site temporarily, amid a dust-up over the company not sharing any proceeds from the sale of the shirts with the months-long movement.
